default
Posted on Thu, 4 Feb 2016
Question: I have been dealing with a thick white running nose for over a year now. It will not go away. It just keeps getting worse. It makes me cough so hard I pass out at times. I think it's an asma attack at time's. I've tried various over the counter allergie medicine. Nothing works or helps. Don't know what to do. Not currently taking anything. I do not smoke. The air in my home may be the cause. I do not smoke.

Brief Answer:
Chronic allergies

Detailed Answer:
I am sorry to see that you have been bothered by this nasal congestion and cough for so long.

Since the drainage is clear to white there is no sign of infection. You more than likely have allergies. The most common long term allergies is house dust or animal dander. You have already tried all OTC medications and not gotten any relief. You have very few options at this point. I recommend that you see an allergist and have a full allergy work up including skin testing. Once they determine the cause of your allergies they can start immunotherapy. Immunotherapy is getting low dose exposure to your allergies and gradually increasing that exposure until you no longer react to the allergens.

In summary
See Allergist for full work up
Immunotherapy to reduce symptoms
