Suggest Treatment For Lump On Right Breast

Posted on Thu, 22 May 2014
Question: I have a lump on my right breast that has been there for at least 2 years possibly more. I have had it checked out three times. The first time they said they thought it was a fiber cystic breast lump. And to come back post menstruation and I did, it was smaller so they were not worried. The second time I had it checked was during a papsmear where they suggested I get it ultrasounded. When the ultrasound was finally scheduled and in session a week or so later, they could not find the cyst. Third time was same as the first I went in for something, talked with them about the cyst they said if it got smaller after menstruation then not to worry. My question is, is it possible to have fiber-cystic lumps that do not hurt as mine is not tender. Also is there any point I should seek further investigation? Do it increase my chance of cancer?

Brief Answer:
Fibrocystic disesae

Detailed Answer:
Dear madme,
it was important that you got your breast lump checked which has been there for more than two years. You are lucky that it is only a fibrocystic lump which becomes tender on menstruation. Had it been cancerous at the onset it would have spread by now.
You do not need any other opnion for proving it. There is a very very rare chance that a breat lump like this can turn malignant. It is good that you have periodical check up for it.
I advise you that you should yourself learn breast self examination and you will youself know if if it has turned to be suspicious.
Chance of developing a cancer depends on many other factors but you should concentrate on breast self examination or periodical examination by an expert.
