Suggest Treatment For Knee Muscle Strain

default
Posted on Wed, 3 May 2017
Question: Not sure how to treat my inside knee muscle strain. I stretched my left leg out sideways while dirt biking. The lower leg bent out sideways. The inner muscle right next to my knee swelled a bit and has been a bit sore. No other symptoms and it does not hurt to walk on it. Have been icing it and staying off my feet unless necessary. Is there anything else I should be doing?

Brief Answer:
RICE mechanism is the best else further investigations for proper evaluation and management.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for using HealthcareMagic,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.

I hope your knee feel better soon, I think you may have injured your cruciate ligaments either the anterior or the posterior. You mentioned in your given history that it is only a muscle strain.

Avoid bending it for a long time, heavy lifting, over weighing, vigorous movements, bad sitting or sleeping postures and wear a knee support will be helpful.

For my patients I recommend painkillers ( NSAIDs ) like Tylenol 500mg tabs twice/thrice daily after meals, gentle massaging with topical anti-inflammatory gels, elevation of your injured limb will be effective for most of the cases.

RICE is the best way most of the athletics use when injured Resting or relaxing, icing it will help with pain and swelling, Compression bandages or slabbing, Elevation of the limb to decrease swelling.

It may take some time to heal from such injuries so if pain persists I recommend further investigation like X-rays and MRI scans to exclude any fissures or tears and follow them up with me or you're orthopedic for proper evaluation and management.

Wish you good health,
Any further clarifications feel free to ask.
