Question: about a month ago I felt some itching so I self treated with monostat thinking it was a yeast infection. Three days after I started itching real bad and started having vaginal discharge. I went to the doctor and was treated for bacteria vaginanis then later found it wasn't BV. I was still having the symptoms and went to an urgent care clinic. After checking my urine I was diagnose with bacteria infection with Macrobid as the treatment. Now I have a foul smell odor and so,e discharge. Is this normal with UTI or do I need to be seen again?

Brief Answer:
HAVE A VAGINAL SWAB DONE

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear and thanks for your query.

I understand your issue and I will try to help you.

As you describe vaginal discharges with foul smell odor are from bacterial infection causing you bacterial vaginosis, but we can't rule out STI .
Hence ,best for you is to have a vaginal swab done to determine the cause of these symptoms .

If you have no chance to do this examination you may start to use some over the counter gel containing metronidazole in a period for 5 to 7 days or you can start to use metronidazole tablets (flagyl) for a period of 7 days 2 tablets per day.

Have a genital hygiene and try to take much more liquids.

All the best

I have had sti test ran and all came back negative. Do I need to have them done again?

Just left urgent care no bacteria vaginosis, no yeast. Still a lot of discharge. Wet prep for STI. Not worried about that not sexual active at all.

Brief Answer:
It may be only leucorrhea(whites)

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear again.
Thank you for being part of HCM .

If you have had a vaginal swab done and it has rule out any infection it may be only leucorrhea.
If you haven't been sexually active after the STI test done you don't need to be tested for STI.

Hence I will give you some advice to treat vaginal discharges .
What you eat plays a vital role in the treatment of leucorrhea and therefore a healthy diet is necessary .
You should eat yogurt at least once a day while suffering from leucorrhea.
Fresh fruits and vegetables should be a part of the daily diet.
A well balanced diet comprising of foods rich in fiber, protein, carbohydrates and other essential nutrients not only helps treat leucorrhea but also prevents its recurrence.
It is best to avoid all types of meat while suffering from leucorrhea as they will only worsen the condition.
You can eat plenty of nuts, whole grains and seeds but stay away from spicy foods, processed foods, greasy and oily foods, condiments and preservatives.
It is also important to avoid beverages like coffee and tea while suffering from leucorrhea.
You can increase the intake of cranberry juice, which is said to be beneficial for treating leucorrhea and urinary infection.
