Question: Hi,

I have polycystic ovaries. Have irregular periods. I went to doc when I had bleeding for more than 20 days and doc prescribed Meprate and asked me to continue for 3 months. I finished my course in XXXXXXX I got my periods in Feb and lasted for four days . I did not get periods for next 2 months and started spotting for 2 weeks and I have normal bleeding now for about seven days and it has not stopped yet. Should I visit my doc again? Any guidance on this would help me immensely!

Brief Answer:
You need to see the doctor again

Detailed Answer:
Hi there
Welcome to HCM

Since you are having prolonged bleeding it's important that you see your doctor.

you need to take tranexemic acid 500 mg to stop the bleeding. next further evaluation if the cause of prolonged bleeding needs to be done with ultrasound and blood tests.

Please do them .

Hope this helps.
Regards.

Thanks for your answer. I have done ultra sound and blood test when I visited my doctor 3 months back. Results are polycystic ovaries, no thyroid, no sugar, no prolactin problem. Do I have to repeat the test? Also do I need to be concerned?

Brief Answer:
this prolonged bleeding is due to PCOS

Detailed Answer:
Hi there,

Since you have done the work up of Pcos just 3 months back do not worry. Excessive and irregular bleeding is common in Pcos.

You will need to repeat the blood test and ultrasound to know if it's got worse. If the ultrasound shows a normal endometrial lining then your doctor can prescribe you medications to get your bleeding to stop.

Don't worry too much. With proper diet exercise and medication PCOS can definitely be controlled.
