Suggest Treatment For Ingrown Hair Infection In The Groin Area

Question: Hello Dr. Kakkar,

I have a question about this ingrown hair follicle pus formation that i am facing in the groin area.
I seem to always get it whenever i shave my pubic hair around that area. It starts after two weeks from the shave with pile up blood in a certain spot and then pops all of a sudden. last time i had it the doctor gave me antibiotic cream and augmentin along with it. plus i used hydrogen peroxide with betadine. it cured it within 10 days.

Two questions please:
Should i wait for it now to pop out and do the same as above again? or you recommend doing something else?
How do i avoid such incident from happening again when i shave in genital area?

thank you.

I just uploaded a picture of it.

Brief Answer:
Remedy for ingrown hair

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX.

Thank you for writing to me regarding your concern. I have gone through your query and I have viewed the Image.

Pubic hair are inherently curly so the problem of ingrown hair is quite common in this region.
Right now since the condition is dormant therefore I wont suggest you to do anything as yet. If it does become inflammed/ painful you may need to repeat the course of oral and topical antibiotics.
Ingrown hair would usually happen more often in those who either shave too closely (e.g against the grain), use an old worn out razor or shave without proper moisturization/ hair softening. You can take care of these factors by using a single blade new razor (don't use it more than 2 times), shaving along the grain and using a good foaming shaving cream to lather up and soften the pubic hair before shaving. Always use lukewarm water to shave if ingrown hair is a problem.
The best way to avoid ingrown hair is to allow the hair to regrow and avoid shaving altogether.
An alternative is to consider either Laser Hair reduction which would avoid the need to shave. Another alternative is to use a depilatory cream but there is a risk of irritation of skin.
