Suggest Treatment For Inflammation After A Celestone Shot

default
Posted on Mon, 29 Jun 2015
Question: I had a strange reaction to something about 12 days ago and the doctor gave me a shot of celestone to bring my inflammation down. He gave it in my right bum cheek. I have had a ton of stiffness and bloating esp on my right side my calf is in a lot of pain. How long until the bloating goes away im up about 10lbs its odd but my pants arent even fitting and its very uncomfortable. I get mixed reviews but im hoping after a few weeks it will all dissipate. Any ideas?

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.

To recapitulate:Female/25 - reaction to something 12 days ago - shot of celestone right bum cheek - stiffness and bloating right side - calf is in pain - up about 10 lbs - pants not fitting - uncomfortable -

I would like to have some clarifications before I proceed our discussion:
- Do you mean to say the the whole body is bloated and you have gained 10 lbs or it is just the bum-cheek that has swollen so much?
- Pain in the right leg started immediately after injection or after some time (hours/days)?
- Any fever, sweating or so?
- Is walking normal/ is the right foot elevation normal ?
-What was the nature of reaction 12 days ago?

I think there is reaction / infection in the injection site.
Another possibility is there is a problem with right sciatic nerve which supplies the calf and whole leg, the more affection causes inability to elevate the foot (foot drop)

I would advise you the following:
Consult the Doctor who gave you the injection or another Doctor for second opinion, clinical evaluation, examination and
Tests of blood to see WBC
Ultrasonography of the injection site to see if there is any pus formation
Neurological examination of both the legs if there is any loss of power in the right leg and foot.

Come back with these reports so that we can discuss further.
Get the proper diagnosis done and get proper treatment started.

Feel free to ask relevant queries and give me feedback of the reports and clinical findings.
