Suggest Treatment For Hot Flashes And Brown Vaginal Discharge

Posted on Mon, 26 Sep 2016
Question: I am 52 and have not had a peroid since XXXXXXX 2015. I visited my Gyn in Feb 2016 , had a normal Pap test at that time. I was also started on hormones due to hot flashes Duavee 45mg which is working perfectly. For the last 5-6 days I have had intermittent, very light, brown discharge. I read on line that it could be atrophy and not a real cause for concern. Is this something I need to see my Gyn about?

Thank you

Brief Answer:
Better contact with your Gyn

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear and thanks for trusting to us for your health issue

Duavee is a hormonal therapy that contain only estrogen.
Estrogen without progesterone can cause thick inner layer of uterus .
Thick inner layer of uterus can cause vaginal bleeding.

Hence in my opinion you should contact with your gynecologist to do a transvaginal scan to show inner layer of uterus.

If it will be thinner than 5 mm than vaginal bleeding is due to atrophy.

All the best

Thank you for the reply. Do you think this could be a serious situation that I should be worried about? Cancer?

Brief Answer:
Explanation is given below...

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear again!

There is an increased risk of endometrial cancer in a woman with a uterus who uses unopposed estrogens.

But Duavee has been shown to reduce the risk of endometrial hyperplasia(thick inner layer), which may be a precursor to endometrial cancer.

Hence in my opinion better contact with your doctor to exclude serious reason as endometrial hyperplasia as a precursor of endometrial cancer.

All the best
