Question: Ive had irregular periods since i started when i was 13. Ive gone as long as 14 months without having one. Ive tried birth control and dont get a period still when im supposed to at the end of the pack, weve done hormone tests, she gave me a plan B to destroy my eggs and start a new cycle. The last one worked for about 4 months, and thats when i when i didnt get another one for 14 months after that. With that being said, I didnt have a period since december 8,2016. I finally got it on april 26th. Ive been going through 5-6 SUPER tampons a day and changing it once at night. This is the 15th day ive been bleeding like this. Ive asked my dr and she says its normal especially because i didnt have one in so long- but to me it seems like a highly excessive amount. Is this "normal"?

Brief Answer:
Due to thick uterine lining

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have gone through your question and understand the concerns.
Irregular bleeding can be due to hormonal issues especially hypothyroidism or polycystic ovarian disease.
In these situations, there is no or delayed ovulation leading to no or delayed periods.
When one has periods after a prolonged amenorrhea, then there is excessive bleeding because a lot of uterine lining has accumulated and gets shed in that period due to hormonal disturbances.
To control the bleeding, you can take tranexemic acid tablets to decrease the flow of bleeding.
There is nothing to worry apart from that.
Hope you found the answer helpful.

Glad to know its okay and im not over reacting! Thank you! Also- we've checked for hypothyroidism and pcos. I feel like weve tried alot of things over the years, and nothing seems to show up on my labs, paps, bloodwork. Anything. Im able to have kids, i have a 2 yr old, but also had a miscarriage last year in XXXXXXX Is there something were missing? Is there something else we should be checking for? She sees me every 4 months- its been that way since i got pregnant (besides my appointments for my son of course) and she just took MORE blood again in march hoping something shows up. My body mimicks my period every month. I get the cramps, the fatigue, back pain, tender breasts, irritability. Everything that comes with having a period- except the actual period. And my doctor has been the same since the beginning- she continuously checks for cysts, pre cancer screenings, she does alot of ultrasounds on my ovaries. Shes asked the other drs. In her practice for advice- they seem to kind of be at a stand still for now. Im reaching out because im worried about cancer, honestly. I read alot on the internet and i worry myself- and i also know its not normal.

Do you think there is something were missing?? Is there something i should ask my dr next time i see her? Is there something else i need to ask her to check for- or check and make sure shes looked for? Most girls dont mind not having a period, i understand that. I dont like it either, however, its the fact we dont have answers after YEARS of this, being able to have a kid, and then suffering a miscarriage last year. Just worried.

Brief Answer:
Not a sign of cancer

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
Not having periods regularly is absolutely not a sign of cancer.
Please tell whether you have got investigations for tuberculosis, serum FSH, LH, prolactin, cortisol levels done and 24 hours urinary cortisol levels done, so that I can help you better.
