Suggest Treatment For Haemorrhoids And How Long Does It Take To Heal

default
Posted on Mon, 5 Jan 2015
Question: Hi - I had a rubber band ligation of a hemmorhoid and after 5 weeks had protected anal sex. Afterwards, I felt like a new hemorrhoid developed but my general surgeon states (after examining with an anoscope) that I do not have a new hemorrhoid - just "anusitis" which I guess is a rectal dermatitis where he had rubber banded me. He prescribed a stool softener and 6 weeks of a suppository containing a corticosteroid and an antibacterial, + sitz baths. I'm not seeing any improvement after 10 days. I've refrained from sex in that region. The site baths do not seem to help. I do not have a sexually transmitted disease. Is this something that just takes time to heal because it is inside the rectum and I need patience. What is the usual next course of treatment if this doesn't work. And, are sits baths really necessary if the pain is minimal?

Brief Answer:
Takes time to heal and needs patience...

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and the detailed history.
Read your history and understood your problem.

Anusitis is inflammation of the lining if the anus.

I would like to know the symptoms you have. Please explain - ''felt like new hemorrhoid'' Hemorrhoid does not cause any symptoms except bleeding in initial stages.
What is not helped by the treatment of your Surgeon.
This will help me to explain you more.

Sitz bath gives soothing, relaxes the muscles around, it is like hot fomentation, improves circulation. I think you can certainly continue if you do not have any problems with Sitz bath.

Yes, you are right. It takes patient and time for the healing in this area for few reasons:
This area is under continuous sort of a spasm as a normal process of continence.
This area is congested after any problem as it is dependent position in sitting and standing position.
The feces are loaded with bacteria which come in contact with this area every time one passes motion and so it does take a time for healing.

I think you can continue to take the same treatment, and I may be in a position to tell you more if you provide me some more details.

I hope this answer helps you to get a proper diagnosis, and get a proper further treatment. Please feel free to ask for more or if you need further clarifications if you feel there is a gap of communication.
