Suggest Treatment For Fine Lines On Side Of Eye

Question: I have just turned 30 and i can see some fine lines (2-3) started appearing.
Though they are quite small but i want to know what can i do to prevent them.
I take care of my skin do exfoliate & mosturize. Need an advice - Should i start using eyecreams now? I used Aloe cream from bodyshop.

I have understood your concern.

Fine lines and wrinkles are a visible sign of ageing.
Our skin ages naturally i.e chronological ageing. This in turn is accelerated by sun exposure i.e photo-ageing.
Over the years there is gradual depletion of collagen and elastin content of dermis as part of ageing process.
As a result of which skin loses its elasticity and tensile strength and becomes dry, wrinkled.
These changes first become apparent at sites like undereye region because the skin is already thin here.

Addressing these issues timely can slow down and even reverse early ageing.

I suggest you to use a broad spectrum sunscreen, that which offers both UV A as well as UV B protection..
Reapply sunscreen every 2-3 hours, specially outdoors.
Neutrogena dry touch ultrasheer sunscreen is a broad spectrum sunscreen and is available OTC.
Stay away from strong sun and avoid going outdoors when the sun intensity is strongest i.e 10 AM to 3 PM.
Use an umbrella Or broad brimmed hats whenever out in the sun.

Alpha Hydroxy Acids like Glycolic acid/ Lactic acid and Topical Retinoids like Retinol/ Tretinoin are antigeing molecules.
They stimulate synthesis of new collagen and stimulate synthesis of extracellular matrix, which forms bulk of the dermis and thus using these delays fine lines and wrinkles.
Now a days many of the OTC products contains these ingredients.

You may try Pond's Day Cream with SPF 15PA++ over the whole of face including underye.
It also contains sunscreen, therefore there is no need to use a sunscreen separately.
At night you may use Pond's night repair cream over the whole of face including undereye.

These OTC brands are commonly promoted as antiageing because they contain AHA's (Glycolic acid) and Retinol which as I mentioned are antiageing and thus help to maintain a healthy, younger looking skin.

Besides, you may also take regular sessions (i.e every 3-4 weeks), of glycolic peeling from a dermatologist.

Dietary measures too are important in maintaining skin health.
Paying attention to what you eat would definitely help in addition to specific treatment.
I would suggest a diet that is home cooked, includes lots of fresh fruits, vegetables, salads.
Avoid junk foods like pizzas, pastas, burgers etc. These contain refined floor (maida) and is not good for the skin.
Eat less of sugar. e.g chocolates, sweets, coffee, tea and coke etc.
Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water daily.
Take regular 8 hours sleep daily.
Physical activity like walking for 30 minutes and jogging is good for skin health.

What is the cost of the same?
From where can i get that done? Is it fine for sensitive skin?

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Glycolic acid is an Alpha Hydroxy Acid/ AHA.
It is one of the most common peeling agent and all dermatologists do it. It is not for home use.
Various strengths of glycolic acid are available for peeling: 20%, 35%, 50% and 70%.
Initial peels are with lower strengths and later on higher strengths may be used as the skin gets used to it and provided there is no irritation.
However for sensitive skins going up to 35% is safe. Higher peels may be cautiously tried.
Lactic acid is also an Alpha Hydroxy Acid like Glycolic acid. Lactic acid peel is for those who have very sensitive skin.
A session of peel is usually performed once every 2-4 weeks.
Benefits of Glycolic peel is that it is skin rejuvenating, anti-ageing, skin lightening, improves complexion and improves/ evens skin tone.

Cost would vary from doctor to doctor and according to the set up. Neostrata peels are good and you can check with your dermatologist.

As I mentioned it is important to begin with lower strengths of Glycolic peel, if you have a very sensitive skin.

Avoid maneuvers like exfoliating, scrubbing, bleaching, waxing, threading while on peels and also stop antiageing creams like I mentioned above (e.g pond's, olay etc), for at least 1 week prior to starting a peel program, because all these can cause a peel to act more strongly and consequent irritation.

Therefore, disclose all the products that you may be using to your doctor before taking a peel. Your doctor may ask you to stop a particular product and come after a week for peel.
