Question: hi there,
my mother is 72 yrs old. her mother had alzheimers for 5 years before she died. my mom is starting to forget a lot of things.
she's very stubborn and secretly terrified of going of going to a doctor to discuss.
i live 3 hours away but have the financial means to help.
what do you suggest.

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your mother's symptoms. They are suggestive of early dementia. This could be most probably due to Alzheimer's disease (AD).

A detailed neurological and neuropsychological examination would help in confirming the presence and severity of dementia.

Investigations such as MRI brain, vitamin B12 level and thyroid profile would help in determining the cause of dementia.

There are good medications available to help her.
