Brief Answer:
chronic ear drum infection, requires otoscopy

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I have gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having recurrent episodes of water per ear. I would like to ask you few more details.

Is there any hard of hearing ?
Is your ear discharge associated with itching ?

As per your clinical details, it seems to be chronic otitis media (ear drum infection) with or with out perforation (ear drum rupture).

With history of episodic ear discharge since 3 years, getting activated with water per ear, common cold episodes could be due to cholestatoma or simple ear drum infection.

I suggest you to consult ent surgeon, get detailed ent examination (allergic rhinitis), otoscopy (perforation/cholestatoma), audiometry (type and degree of hearing loss). Treatment can be started as per the findings.

Meantime, avoid water per ear (plug the ears with dry cotton during bath), stop consuming freezer products (curd/ice creams/cold beverages can cause common cold).

As such, ear infection will not cause any weight loss directly.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.

Brief Answer:
active infection-antibiotics needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,

Thanks for considering my answer and for your follow up.

Hearing loss with watery discharge confirms active infection with perforation. presently you require oral and aural (ear) antibiotics. As active infection resolves, you may require surgery depending on the investigations.

Without treatment, you can develop complications like local ear abscess (pus), meningitis (brain coverings infection), brain abscess, facial palsy and permanent total hearing loss.

Kindly evaluate.

Hope, I have answered your query.

Take care.
