Question: My daughter is chronically coughing due to allergies and I gave her some delsym several hours ago with no apparent positive effect. I have a prescription for bromfed dm cough syrup. Is there any potentially negative interaction between these if I give her the bromfed now as well?

Brief Answer:
No significant interactions.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Greetings from Dr.Divakara.P
Thanks for posting your query.

First I will let you know the contents of the medication you have mentioned .

1. Delsym : Dextromethorphan.

2. Bromfed : Brompheniramine, pseudoephedrine and Dextromethorphan.

So Bromfed contains Dextromethorphan ( which is the same content in Delsym ) along with some additional medicines .

So there is no interactions between Delsym and Bromfed . So you can go ahead and give her the medicine.

Also if she can let her do salt water gargling 3-4 times a day, drink hot water, eat less oily food , avoid non veg food and avoid Citrus fruits.

Hope this information was useful to you.

Any clarifications feel free to ask.

Regards.
