Posted on Tue, 28 Feb 2017
Question: I am 61 years old and I am having cronic and painful problems in my anus or rectum. I may have a hemorrhoid but I believe there is also a fissure. I have some issues from my first child who was born 39 years ago and believe that my colon has prolapsed into he vaginal wall. What kind of doctor would I need to go see to evaluate and correct these issues? I am hoping one doctor could treat both.

Brief Answer:
Proctologist

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking HealthcareMagic.

The doctor that you are looking for is called a proctologist. A proctologist, also known as a colon and rectal surgeon or coloproctologist begin as general surgeons, trained to treat all parts of the gastrointestinal tract. Especially such problems with anus and rectum (hemorrhoids, fissure, anal fistula, rectal prolapse)

So in your case, a proctologist can treat you for your hemorrhoids, fissure and diagnose if there is any rectal prolapse or not, or any other condition in your colon and treat it accordingly with medications and/ surgery.

If you have any other question, don't hesitate to contact me.

Wishing you good health
