Hi,

Welcome to HealthCareMagic.com I am Dr.J XXXXXXX Anto Bruno Mascarenhas, and I am here to help you. I have read your question with care and understand that

1. Your Father has some problems with his neck
2. He could not turn the neck after some point of time
3. He is 59 years old and still working
4. The problem was due to carrying heavy rice bags few years ago

From the history, you have narrated, it appears as if your father has Cervical Spondylosis

Cervical Spondylosis is a Degeneration of Cervical Spine. It is a wear and tear condition due to constant use and sometimes overuse of Spine

The Management of this condition Requires Evaluation with
1. Clinical Examination
2. Radiology : X Ray Cervical Spine / CT Cervical Spine / MRI Cervical Spine
3. Nerve Conduction Studies

Clinical Examination is needed to Find out
1. Range of Movements of Neck : Both Active Movements as well as Passive Movements
2. Muscle Power
3. Reflexes
4. Sensory Involvement
Radiology is Required to Document the Various Structural Changes that have been caused due to Cervical Spondylosis
Nerve Conduction Studies are requires to Know the Level and Extend of Nerve Compressions to decide the treatment options.

After this Evaluation, based on the findings in Evaluation we have to start the treatment

The Treatment Options will be
1. Life Style Modifications : Change in Pillows, Avoiding two wheelers etc
2. Exercises
3. Physiotherapy
4. Traction (if Needed)
5. Tablets (if needed)
6. Surgery (if needed)

I would request your father to kindly consult a Neurosurgeon for further evaluation

Hope you found the answer helpful.
