Question: Hello Doctor,

My mother in-law is having bone tuberculosis on right side of hip bone. she can't walk and even she can't lift her right leg. It's been 1 year now as doctor had done MRI scan n xray and doctor told that it will take 1 year to recover.

Yesterday she went for checkup n doctor has told that her bone is not recovered yet. they will again do MRI n after that hip bone will be replaced by operation.

can you please suggest what to do. Is this fine to operate and replace the hip bone.

Thank you.

It is OK to get hip replacement surgery.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query

I'm Dr Sudhir Kumar

I have gone through your query and understand your concern. Your mother in law has tuberculosis of right hip joint. Probably her hip has been damaged and she has been advised to undergo probably hip replacement surgery. I wanted to know since when she is taking antitubercular treatment. She need to get some investigation such as ESR and C reactive protein. If these are normal and she has taken at least 6months of anti tubercular treatment. Then she can undergo replacement surgery under anti tuberculosis treatment cover. You can discuss with your doctor about it.

You can upload the test reports for me to view.

Hope your query is answered. If you have any clarification then I will be happy to help you.

Wishing your mother in law a good health.
Take care.
