Question: I am 34. I have been having alot of gas for last couple of weeks-month. Stomac feels bloated almost all the time,  except when I wake in the morning. After a few hours I get really bloated and have a feeling of pressure on my left sidr under the ribs.  Right side is ok.  It does not hurt, just like a pressure,  if I press back on it,  it feels normal. I am not sure what this is and it is but it is concerning me alot. I do get blood in my stool once in a while, I think that is a hemorrhoids I had since in my teens . sometimes if I pass a very hard stool it will hurt and bleed for a few days. I have no other  symptoms  other than the pressure and gas and sometimes blood in stool.  The blood is always bright red and on top of the stool and on the paper. I do take a prilosec everyday as my only medication for stomac acid.

I just came from the my general doctor, he put hand in my ass and did a test and found no blood. He referred me to a gastroentoligist,  but the appointment is not for another month. One of my best friend died a ago year with colon cancer at age 33 and it is very scary.  Do you think the pressure could be colon cancer or just some gas?

Brief Answer:
Increased intestinal gas/gastroparesis?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.

The bright red blood on the top of the stool and on the paper which is associated with hard stool is most likely to be due to hemorrhoids or anal fissure.
A colonoscopy may be done to confirm it and rule out other causes.
High fiber diet, lot of fluids, stool softeners and sitz bath would provide relief.

The bloated feeling is unlikely to be due to colon cancer. It is more likely to be due to increased intestinal gas or a possible gastroparesis ( slow functioning of stomach). Continue taking Prilosec. Take prokinetic medications like Reglan for relief.

Let me know if you have any more questions.
Regards,
Dr.R.K.
