Suggest Treatment For Bilateral Leg Pain

default
Posted on Tue, 16 Aug 2016
Question: Experiencing bilateral leg pain, entire leg - all aspects... has occurred for 24 hours. Now experiencing right flank pain - mid back, the right of mid-line spine. The pain, especially in the legs, is constant (about 6), but does flare to 8. Not relieved by elevating legs or resting, nor by weight bearing. Had chemistry labs drawn this morning (results to take 48 hours). All labs drawn 2 weeks ago were WNL, including liver enzymes and creatinine. For the last month, have experienced twitching, and odd 'shivering' sensation (like when a horse shivers their flanks?) in my lower legs, but feels underneath the skin (ie. can't see it). This sensation was occurring only at night, but now occurring during the day as well. My MD said to call her immediately if I experience leg weakness and/or symptoms spread to my arms...no other recommended therapy for now, pending lab results. BP 100-112/60-70 mmHg, pulse 50-60, NSR (my normal)

Brief Answer:
Need imaging study of the back

Detailed Answer:
Good afternoon. So sorry you are feeling these symptoms.

So if I could recapitulate a bit. You've has bilateral leg pain from the hip all the way to the toes, all around the entire leg to the toes. Pain is rated as 6/10 in the legs and is constant and flares to an 8. Changes in position of the legs using elevation or rest does not change that pain rating and it's not worsened by weight bearing either. We are waiting on labs but had some done a couple weeks ago which were normal.

For the past month legs have been twitching and there is a "shivering" sensation in the lower legs which feels to be below the skin (nonvisible). These sensations were only at night....now during the day as well. No specific treatment has been recommended. Watch and see type of thing until labs come in.

My concern with these symptoms as you've presented them is that there could be an epidural mass lesion or infection that needs to be ruled out. You haven't said anything about back pain which is often present with mass lesions, however, if there has not been an imaging study of the back I would definitely recommend you be afforded an MRI of the lumbar spine with GADOLINIUM CONTRAST. I would also ask what your core body temperature is since the shivering sensation could be from a fever of some sort as well.

Therefore, my best suggestion is that you get a good set of vital signs done to include TEMPERATURE using a reliable digital or standard thermometer and to get an MRI of the lumbar spine with gadolinium contrast.

If I've satisfactorily addressed your question then, could you do me the kindest of favors by CLOSING THIS QUERY and be sure to include some fine words of feedback and a 5 STAR rating to our transaction if you feel the response has helped you? Again, many thanks for posing your question.
