Suggest Treatment For Back And Knee Pain While Walking And Riding

Question: Hi, I'm 31 years (male) and i have back and knee pain (only right knee) for the past 8 months. The pain not continuous but will increase whenever i walk couple of miles or ride my two wheeler otherwise it's bearable. I consulated with a ortho doctor and he suggesed the pain/discomfort is due to my ASO level (my ASO level is 240) and precribed me to take some pencillin related injection every 20 days for 6 months.

Yesterday i consulted with another doctor and he said ASO level is not a problem and is insignificent for my problem. He suggested me to take tablets like tolflex and Nusaid.

I'm confused with two different opinions. Should i worry about my ASO level and does it has any relations to my knee and back pain?

Brief Answer:
The mere presence of ASO does not indicate disease

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for posting
I have gone through your query and understand your concern. Raised or rising levels can indicate past or present infection with streptococcus (throat infection).
This titre has significance only if it is greatly elevated, or if a rise in titre can be demonstrated in blood samples taken days apart and above all values need to be correlated with a clinical sign and symptoms.
As many people are exposed to these bacteria and remain asymptomatic, the mere presence of ASO does not indicate disease.
Beside knee pain and back pain do you have any other symptoms?
The disease caused by streptococcus is rheumatic heart disease and has its own specific sign and symptoms, which I do not think you have.
You may continue with tolflex, Nusaid, regular exercises and hot water fomentation to take care of backache.
Hope this helps.
Take care
