Question: Hello Doctor, I am 36 years old and I often am subjected to allergic cold. This allergy triggers when I am exposed to dust. I sneeze a lot during this time and have recurring running nose episodes as soon as I wake up from sleep or some out of a bath.
I don't get headaches during these episodes. Its mostly just running nose and a burning sensation inside the nose.
It has become quite frequent recently and so I am worried and would like to get a permanent solution if possible. I try and avoid being exposed to dust as much as possible. The problem is that once I am exposed to dust and catch cold it takes a week or more to cure.

Hello, Can somebody pick up my query and provide some advice?

Brief Answer:
you have a condition called allergic rhinitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello

From your history it looks like you have allergic rhinitis, which simply means a nose allergy.

Well the best way to treat an allergy is to avoid an allergen

Please remember the word DUST is a very non specific word and can mean anything from pollen's to common pollutants.

The best thing would be to meet an allergy specialist, who will do some tests on you to find out exactly what you are allergic to. once that is found, you can avoid it

You can also try monteleukast with levocetrizine combination, it will help give good relief. i would suggest you keep one in your pocket and take it as soon as you start developing the symptoms.

In my clinic, i would also start the patient on steroid nasal sprays, which have proven to be very effective in controlling the symptoms of allergic rhinitis.

Hope i have cleared your doubts.

Take care

Thanks Doctor. Could you please tell me the name of the medicine that has monteleukast with levocetrizine?
1. Can I use it whenever I experience these allergies?
2. Is it safe for prolonged use?
3. what is the dosage you recommend?

Could you provide the name of the nasal spray, is it safe to use since its steroids? what frequency would you recommend?

Brief Answer:
It's safe for use

Detailed Answer:
hello

yes it is very safe to use moteleukast with cetrizine. except for some sedation there should be no problem. the best thing is to take it at night every day for a month and then whenever you need
i normally start with a dose of 10mg. the combination comes on various trade names and you can choose the one which is easily available in your area

nasal sprays are very effective and safe. the body absorption is very low so the safety is very good. I would normally start with 2 puffs twice a day in each nostril for 2 months and assess the response. will adjust the dosing accordingly

I normally start on fluticasone frater nasal sprays as I have found them to be more useful.

take care
