Suggest Treatment For Raynaud's Syndrome
Question: I have Raynaud's syndrome, disease, phenomonon, whatever ..... my hands and toes are affected first. During a doctor's exam, he exclaimed, "You even have it on your torso!" Other than the fact that I should not smoke for a number of reasons, what should I do? I only wear mittens, not gloves. At home, it's socks and slippers.

hello dear, welcome to HCM forum.
Raynaud's phenomenon may be primary (idiopathic) or secondary (associated with other underlying diseases).
So we have to evaluate for and exclude underlying diseases first. Common conditions associated are scleroderma, mixed connective tissue disease, SLE etc. A blood routine test, ANA, and RF are the initial screening tests usually ordered. You doctor will guide you in this.
If such diseases are excluded, this is primary and can be treated accordingly.
Most such cases need only supportive measures. Only if it is severe and fails to control with supportive measures we need pharmacological treatment (vasodilator drugs and ointments).
The supportive measures are :
1)the most important one is to avoid exposure to cold at any cost. Leather gloves/mittens will offer more help than woollen ones.
2)Avoid smoking.
3)Avoid caffeinated beverages.
4)avoid vasoconstrictor agents (anti migraine drugs, beta blockers etc).
