Brief Answer:
IBS and depression are very much related..Need antidepressant

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

First of all I must inform you that both irritable bowel syndrome and depression are very much related disorder and there is high rates of comorbidity with each other. In other words it will not be wrong to say that both condition can be the manifestation of same pathology.

I understand your treatment for IBS but I feel it will be appropriate to add one SSRI group of medication with your current medications. In most of my patients I add cap fluoxetine 20 mg which brings bout dramatic improvement in depression as well as IBS symptoms. The other options are paroxetine, sertraline and escitalopram.

I hope this helps you.
If you have more questions feel free to write back to me.
Thanks and regards.

Brief Answer:
To be continued for six months

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,
Thanks for reverting back to me.

Yes the Fluoxetine can be taken along with current medication and even. Most of the patients require about 20 mg of Fluoxetine which is available with brand names such as Prodep, Fludac, flutee etc.

In regard to duration of use most patients get benefit by end of first month and require treatment for at least six months.

I am sorry to inform you that online prescribing is never permitted by regulatory authorities (medical council) and pharmacists are not supposed to honor such prescription.

You need to talk to a local doctor to get prescription of the same.

Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
If not, you may close the discussion and if possible you may rate the answer for my future patients.
