Brief Answer:
Diet and exercise first is recommended

Detailed Answer:
Good day,
Noted your concern.
The trearment of polycystic ovary syndrome is based on patient's symptoms and expectations. If the main concern is excess hair growth or irregular periods, then hormoanl pills may help to improve both. If the concern is fertility, there are other medicines .

As far as weight gain is concerned, there is no medicine which we use purely for weight loss in polycystic ovary syndrome. However, if she has elevated blood sugars or altered blood sugars, we can start on Metformin which is an excellent medicine which also can help in weight loss. If the patient's sugars are normal, this medicine is not recommended.

There are few other medicines which is used for excess weight. You will have to meet an endocrinologist to get her examined and based on that, endocrinologist will decide if she need weigh loss medications.

EXERCISE and Diet ccontrol are two main and most powerful tools to reduce weight and it will also improve most of the other symptoms of poly cystic ovary syndrome.
