Brief Answer:
There seems to be associated disorder along with ASD

Detailed Answer:
Hi
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. There are various possibilities leading to such symptoms in your grandson.
1. Poorly controlled seizures
2.TOURETTE syndrome associated with Autistic apectrum disorder( ASD)
3. PANDAS : pediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorders associated with strpeptococcal infections.
4. Drug side effects

I know the terms might be new to you but these are possible reasons. I would recommend you to take him to a neurologist. You may take him to other neurologist if you are not satisfied with the previous one.

These disorders need complete evaluation and investigation such as EEG, MRI, Throat culture, streptococcal antibody tests, blood tests for drug levels, etc. to come to definitive cause.

There are many newer antiepileptic drugs which can be used to treat uncontrolled epilepsy. Also newer modes such as vagal nerve stimulation, epileptic surgery may be used.

But all the above mentioned measures needs to be under proper neurological evaluation.

Hopefully this will help you.
Take care
