Question: I had surgery to repair my broken ankle and now I have soft tissue swelling and nerve pain (burning). I keep my foot ice and elevated and take ibuprofen but it does not help the pain. Is there anything else I can do to help relief the pain?

Brief Answer:
Active toe movement and strong analgesic may be of help.

Detailed Answer:

Hi
Thanks for your query

I'm Dr Sudhir Kumar

I have gone through your query and understand your concern. You had got surgery for your broken ankle and you are now having swelling and pain. You are Icing, elevating and taking analgesic ( ibuprofen) to reduce pain. These all are helpful in reducing pain. If Ibuprofen doesn't relief pain then you can take strong analgesic such as tramadol for pain relief. Apart from these active toe movements help in reducing swelling. Chymoral forte is helpful in reducing swelling. Mecobalamine is helpful in nerve pains. You can visit your treating surgeon and discuss with your doctor about it.

I wanted further information from you that how many days has passed you got surgery on your broken ankle? Whether you have throbbing sensation and fever?

Hope your query get answered. If you have any clarification then I will be happy to help you.

Wishing you a good health.
Take care.

Hi - I am 22 days post-op. When I move my toes the burning sensation increases. I have good movement of my ankle and toes. No "bone pain" just the burning from the swelling. I am in a AirCast boot but still NWB. I am hoping to be able to put some weight on my ankle soon.

Brief Answer:
excercises and Mecobalamine is of help.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome back
Apart from elevation , Icing and analgesic you can start active ankle and toe movement. You are saying that it increases your burning sensation, initially there can be some increases in burning sensations but gradually it will help in reducing burning sensations as swelling will reduce with excercises. Mecobalamine is helpful in healing of nerves and improve burning sensations.
Everything else already discussed.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
If not, you may close the discussion and if possible you may rate the answer for me, so that I get a good feedback.
