Suggest Remedy For Severe Constipation Post Bartholin Gland Removal

default
Posted on Mon, 14 Dec 2015
Question: I had my left Bartholin gland removed a year ago after Chronic issues. This past month I have been feeling a difficulty with pressure toward the bottom/opening of my rectum when I need to pass a Bowel Movement. I have never had this issue before. It is often but not always. I have started taking stool softener. But I am still finding that there seems to be a tightness in the opening of my rectum and it requires me to "push" to relieve myself, even to pass gas at times. Could this issue be a result of scar tissue or another side effect of the Bartholin surgery? It feels as if the rectum opening is tight and smaller. Could this have happened? (I recall my surgeon saying the Barthoin gland and rectal nerves are very close in the body.)

Brief Answer:
Local anal lesion need to be ruled out

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

Dear Ms

Its unlikely to be result of Surgery for removal of Bartholin gland. The nerves controlling the deep rectal tone are situated more deeper and unlikely to be damaged during the Surgery. If ever the nerve were damaged the tone would not have been increased.

You seem to suffering from Chronic constipation , possibly underlying anal fissure needs to be considered( Small ulcer at anal opening which causes anal muscle to go into spasm )

Chronic constipation in an adult is likely to be due to following
1. Low fibre diet
2. Decreased intake of water
3. Presence of lesion of anus and rectum

Before embarking on blind empirical treatment its advisable to undergo thorough evaluation by General Surgeon/Gastroenterlogist

I would suggest you the following

1. Plenty of oral fluids: 2-3 liter of water a day
2. High fibre diet: 2 servings of vegetable salad and fruits everyday
3. Oral Laxatives
4. Daily exercise especially 30 minutes of brisk walk

I would also suggest you to consult Physician for primary assessment, if that would take long time then you can send me clinical photograph for further assessment

Take Care
