Suggest Remedy For Pain On Stitches Post C-section Delivery

default
Posted on Mon, 22 Sep 2014
Question: My wife is 28 years old and had a c-section delivery around 16 months ago. She also took good precautions in rest and food for 5-6 months post delivery. Still after 16 months, whenever she eat any kind of pickle, her whole bottom line where stitches were made starts paining after a gap of 5-6 hours after eating pickle. Also this pain comes sometimes (once in a month) without any reason/pattern. This pain lasts for around 1-2 hours and mostly bearable. Also the pain increases if she moves the lower tummy in vertical direction along the body (horizontal movement is fine). Just wanted to check what can we do in this situation ?

Brief Answer:
Dont worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX
Thanks for writing..
I understand your concern..

May I know whether she had any complications in the intraop period? Did she have any wound infection in the postop period?

Pickle causes gastric irritation which can lead to gaseous distension. Even minimal adhesion in the peritoneum can cause pain at the site of stitch due to gastric distention.

The only remedy is to avoid spicy food , pickle, excess of oil for 6 months.
Drink lots of water, milk and curd.

After 6 months slowly start spicy food. Most of the cases, problem gets solved with this. If pain is persisting, you can get a scan done.

Hope I have answered your queries. Feel free to ask any doubts. Good day.

No, she did not have any wound infection or conplications as far as we remember. It's actually 16 months already, according to your advice 6 months should have resolved these issues.

Brief Answer:
Minimal adhesion can cause pain.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for writing..

Even though there was no complications, there can be minimal adhesion which is the cause of pain during gaseous distension. For this the treatment modality is:
1. Avoid spicy food in the next 6 months.
2.Yoga
3.scar massaging both superficially and deep ( it will help to break minimal adhesion).
4. Drink adequate fluid because dehydration can accelerate adhesion.

Mostly with this, problem will be cured in next 6 months. If problem is still persisting, then a surgical adhesiolysis might be required.

Hope your doubts are clarified. If there is no furthur doubts, please close the conversation and rate my answer. Good day.
