Question: I skied for 3 days at Vail. fell once on last day but did not feel any issue with right shoulder. later right shoulder began to ache, particularly when I reach my hand up. no pain unless reaching up. pain is an ache (not a shooting pain).
typically, I swim about 4000 yards weekly and lift weights twice a week (but will not till shoulder heals).

Brief Answer:
Soft tissue injury likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The persistent ache and pain on overhead movements can be due to a soft tissue injury or inflammation like tendonitis.
You need to get an MRI scan done which is a more sensitive test for soft tissue and muscular injuries. An Orthopedician is the best person to be consulted.
Here are some general treatment measures which you can follow:
1) Provide complete rest and avoid overhead activities.
2) Apply cold compresses and take some anti inflammatory pain killer after consulting your doctor.

I hope this answers your query.

In most cases, based on the information that I provided, do you think that after proper rest and following advice of my physician, that eventually I will be able to swim and lift weights again?
