Brief Answer:
need decongestant, cough suppressant, anti histamine combination

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Cough and cold are common in children.

Coughing can be due to the dripping of mucus at the back of the throat or may be due to irritation of the air passage ways in the lungs.

You can use a decongestant to help reduce the secretions that may be going to the back and causing coughing.Decongestants can be oral or topical (a drop or spray to the nose). Eg of oral decongestants are- pseudoephedrine or phenyephrine

Topical decongestant- normal saline drops

This can be used along with cough suppressant eg dextromethorphan

The mixture of the decongestant/ cough suppressant and antihistamine (like the one you are using) would be available over the counter at your local pharmacy.
Ask for this combination - cough suppressant (dextromethorphan), decongestant and antihistamine

Most over the counter cough and cold meds would have the above.

Honey also helps if he can use this. It helps with coughing.

If the cough is a wet cough, he would need medication to help break up the mucus so that it can come up easily.

For example bisolvan, guaifenesin, mucomyst- these are medications that help with wet cough.

A COUGH CAN SOMETIMES LASTS UP TO 6 WEEKS IN SOME CASES.

If it persists , he may need to see his doctor

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

Brief Answer:
normally in children over 6

Detailed Answer:
HI

This is fine- it contains 2 mucolytics- ambroxol and guiaphenesin (to help break up mucus so it comes out easier)
Antihistamine- levocetirizine and phenyephrine which is a decongestant

This is a good combination of medication

Normally not used in children less than 6 .

Age 6 to 12 use 2.5 to 5 ml , 3 to 4 times a day

Since your son is 5, the pharmacist or doctor would need to tell you the dose

If you need more help, let me know
