Suggest Remedy For Chronic Fatigue Syndrome And Muscle Pain

default
Posted on Mon, 2 Mar 2015
Question: I have symtoms of chronic fatigue syndrome; I am depressed[ for at least 10 to 15 years] and have been on SSRI for as many years; my body aches and I have severe joint and muscle pain, at one time in my life I could not sleep for 2 years but I finally told my Dr. about it, but most of the sleep aides gave me a sleep hangover, so I tried melatotin but that didnt work either, The Dr. finally put me on a low dose of xanax just before bedtime, I slept but did not feel refreshed in the morning. It is real hard to get up in the morning cause I feel so tired. I am a BSN,RN and have been fighting this most of my life.

I once went for a total blood work up. I couldnt afford to go back for my results because I was working in a home care agency that did not supply me with insurance. My mother was Dx later in life with Fibromyalgia rhuematica;COPD;and had smoked 2 pkgs of Kools, for 41 years and quit with 2 visits to a hypnotist. but eventually died from lung and colon cancer at the age of 79 y.o.

Brief Answer:
Xanax is a benzodiazepine and should be avoided to use in regular basis

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for asking from HEALTH CARE MAGIC

I have read your query and I can understand your problem. You are a 62 years old female and have symptoms of Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). As your mother had symptoms of fibromyalgia rheumatica so you are at risk to develop these symptoms to some extent. Your main issues are poor sleep and chronic body and joint aches. Xanax caused sleep but resulted in hangover in morning.

As your main concerns are poor sleep with CFS so as per my opinion treatment of CFS symptoms would result in improvement of sleep. You have been on SSRIs for years but now sleep is main issue. For poor sleep medicines like Mirtazapine, Paroxetine (SSRI) can be tried. Both these medicines are good anti-depressants and will result in improvement of sleep also. These medicines will reduce the pain and you will feel better. SNRIs can also be kept as choice because these medicines are commonly used in CFS symptoms. Medicines like Venlafaxine, Duloxetine can help you in the pain and aches and will help in sleep.

Xanax is a benzodiazepine drug. As you are a RN and are aware of the fact that benzodiazepines can cause dependence and result in development of tolerance so should be avoided for use in regular basis for more than 4 weeks. The medicines I have mentioned would not only help in improvement in sleep but will also result in control of symptoms of CFS. These medicines will also cause refreshing sleep.

Discuss with your doctor for prescription of these drugs.

Thanks, I hope this helps you. Please ask again if you have more doubts.
