Question: Hi,
This is a follow up question which you just answered( Accidentally i closed the thread and so it doesn't let me ask on it).
Transcript of what you just recommended "Now we come to MEDICATION.

Sneezing is caused by irritation of inside of the nose which is usually due to inhalation of allergy causing particle like polen or dust.

This can easily be dealt with by using tablet citerizine 10mg daily at night. You can use it during the day as well ,but it may cause sedation so better use it at night or early evening so that its effect may wean off till next morning.

Steam inhalation can help in reducing your symptoms and clearing up nasal passages.

I suggest my patients with allergy combined with congestion , to take tablet Alegra-D , it works as an antihistamin as well as decongestant."

So i was wondering what is the duration of recommended tablets (citerizine and Alegra-D)

Thanks
doctor

Brief Answer:
5 days usually and when required you can use allergy meds

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing back,

I am sorry that the thread got closed.
You don't have to use Citerizine and Allegra-D together . Let me tell you the difference between them and then you can chose what suits you.

1) Citerizine:

It's anti-histamin and it will help you control sneezing and allergic symptoms.

2) Alegra-D:
It has antihistamin PLUS decongestant so if you have allergy with congestion or nose block you may use this instead of citerizine.

3) Antibiotic:

If you get fever and sore throat get worsened for 4-5 days then you might need to use antibiotics , I would suggest my patients in clinic to use tablet Augmentin 625mg twice a day.

4) Pain killer:

If you are having fever or throat pain you may use tablet Tylenol to relieve symptoms.

Duration of meds:

1) All medication mentioned above are usually suggested for 5 days normally , then you can use citerizine when ever you get allergy.
You can also use Citerizine continuously for even a month during the season in which you often get allergies, but it's always suggested to use it only when really required because like all other meds it has side effects too.

I hope this makes things much clear instead of just giving you a set of medications I tried to explain to you your possible options so that you may understand how you can make the best use of these meds.

I hope this answers your question if you have more I am happy to answer stay blessed. Wish you the best of health.

Regards.

Hi,
It was really helpful, thanks.

I have started with Alegra-M instead of Alegra-D since the latter isn't available; Assuming the dose to be daily once at night?

Brief Answer:
Yes a tab at night will do.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing back,

Alegra-M is basically just for allergies and alegra D has got a Decongestant as well (that's why its name includes a "D")

Though there are others available in market to but according to your condition you just need Alegra-M (even simple Citerizine will do)at night and a Tylenol for throat pain, until you don't get congestion and fever. a simple anti allergic will do.

You can use it until you want, in few people it may cause sedation so take it early in night , like at 8PM so that its sedation effects disappear by morning.

Wish you the very best of health.

Best regards.

Dr.Muhammad Ahmad
