Brief Answer:
Improve diet and increase sun exposure....

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Yes, your reports revealed vitamin d levels are deficient. And this could be due to the lack of sun exposure. However there are other causes that include dietary deficiency and co-exisiting medical conditions. I would like to know whether or not you consume non vegatarian food? What is your current weight and height? Have you checked thyroid hormones and renal functions. Please provide these details in the follow up.

To answer your questions now:

1. If you wish to improve vitamin D levels, I will want you to increase amount of time you spend under the sun. Good amount of sun exposure will allow you to produce vitamin D in your body. In addition, I will also suggest you start vitamin D supplementation and vitamin D rich foods.

2. Non vegetarian diet as well as milk are good source of vitamin D. If you have no problem drinking milk and consuming non veg food like fish, liver and meat, take then atleast twice or thrice a day if not every day.

3. Reducing weight / maintaining weight and improving sun exposure will help you increase vitamin D.

4. For supplementation, I will start you on vitamin D XXXXXXX (D rise 60000 IU sachet) once a week for 6-8 weeks; thereafter vitamin D tablets 1000 IU for couple of months. You can recheck vitamin D levels after completion of this course.

Hope your questions are answered.

My current weight is 75 and height is 5'3'

I am vegetarian by birth however I started eating chicken and Mutton since last 15
years . I will surely start eating fish however which Fish ( I really dont have idea
which fish to purchase as I heard there are lot of fishes available in market and can you confirm which fish suits the best for me in this situation )

I do not drink direct Milk directly but have coffee or tea 3 times a day and would it take care of Milk or else should i have only milk separately ?

Brief Answer:
Renal test ok; thyroid functions not found...

Detailed Answer:
I went through the reports. It didn't show anything overly concerning. I couldn't find thyroid functions though. It would be good if you can get your thyroid hormone tested - serum TSH, T3 as well as T4 levels.

1. At 73 kg, you are overweight for the height. Fat also alters vitamin D level. Therefore you will benefit by losing some weight. Ideally I would like you to keep weight around 60 kg.

2. 6000 IU D rise XXXXXXX is once a day. You may take it before you go to bed. Similarly vitamin D 1000 IU tablet can be taken once a day before going to bed.

3. All forms of non veg diet are rich in vitamin D. If you have no problem in continuing non veg food continue with meat and chicken. You may add any variety of fish once a week or twice a week.

4. Yes, drinking milk instead of coffee / tea will benefit you.

5. Lastly, you need not wait for thyroid hormone rests to start supplements. You can start those right away and subsequently plan your thyroid hormone test.

Hope its clear. Let me know if you need clarifications.

Is it okay to take Calcium Carbonate or Calcium Citrate 500 mg] along with D3 60,000 .

What are symptoms for Vitamin Deficiency .

Brief Answer:
D rise XXXXXXX ..

Detailed Answer:
There are many brands of vitamin D3 available in the market. I prescribe D rise XXXXXXX to my patients. It's available in various doses. As instructed you can start D rise XXXXXXX 6000 IU once a week for 8 weeks. Followed by D rise XXXXXXX / capsule 1000 IU.

You can take calcium supplement along with D3 supplement. It provides added benefits and doesn't interact / interfere with vitamin D correction.

Vitamin D deficiency presents with wide ranges of symptoms. The commonest symptoms being bone pains, weakness and lethargy. Your complaints of less energy and sleepiness may be due to vitamin d deficiency. However the mood swings and irritability / getting angry for no reasons may have other reasons too. You can talk to a doctor about them.

Hope this answered your question.
