Brief Answer:
SSRIs are considered as good for people with metabolic syndrome

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

If we consider metabolic syndrome as side effect then older anti-depressants especially tricyclic drugs and MAO inhibitors are considered to be associated with metabolic syndrome. Even the drug Trazodone is associated with metabolic syndrome.

Newer anti-depressants mainly SSRIs (Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) are considered as safe in terms of metabolic side effects. A lot of research studies have confirmed this. But in some studies some SSRIs especially Paroxetine, Escitalopram and to some extent Sertraline are found to cause metabolic side effects.

If SSRIs are considered then Fluoxetine is safest SSRI in terms of metabolic side effect. In some studies it has been even found to improve metabolic parameters like weight, waist circumference in persons taking it. So over all Fluoxetine is considered as safe and good for people who have metabolic syndrome. Discuss with your psychiatrist for making any change in your prescription.

Thanks, Hope this helps you. Please ask again for more doubts.

Brief Answer:
Cymbalta and Wellbutrin are safe in metabolic syndrome

Detailed Answer:
Hello again and thanks for asking a follow up

Both Wellbutrin and Cymbalta are considered as safer if metabolic syndrome is considered. Both drug are good in metabolic syndrome. Though no detailed research studies are there but the risk of metabolic syndrome with these drugs is very rare which is also supported by case reports.

Thanks. Please ask again if you have more doubts.
