Question: I have been prescribed gabapentin for bad anxiety but I am panicking a lot while waiting for it to work. The bentos I have to relieve the anxiety in the meantime just don't work at all. What else can I try? There must be something else for anxiety. It is killing me

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question.

Anxiety is best treated in the long-term with an SSRI concurrently with psychotherapy such as CBT. However, it sounds like you're in the middle of a crisis. Benzodiazepines such as Xanax, Ativan, and Valium are the most effective anxiolytics. Gabapentin is also effective. If none of these at adequate doses works, you can also try over the counter Benadryl or Vistaril.
