Question: This is the 3rd day of taking metropolol 25 mg for sinus tachycardia. Today I felt like I can’t catch my breath and my heart is racing, should I stop taking it and call my doctor? My BP is 126/90

Brief Answer:
likely another cause since metoprolol slows the heart rate

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Metoprolol normally reduces the heart rate, it works in this way. It attaches to certain areas of the heart and slows contractions.
This means that it is not likely responsible for the palpitations that you are experiencing.

You should definitely consider calling your doctor but to find the other possible causes of your palpitations.

Anemia, high levels of thyroid hormone, infection, side effect of other medication (such as meds for asthma), anxiety are some of the other causes of an increased heart rate.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

I actually had a multi grain fiber right before the racing heart rate which lasted 10min...I’m trying to do an elimination process on my diet to see what causes it. I stopped drinking milk and for 2 months now no episodes, when I eat eggs I feel my heart skipping beats... not sure if it’s Gluten or dairy products
