Is Wine Consumption Safe While On Metronidazole Gel Therapy?

Question: Hi Dr. Setia,
Let's leave my case open until I get the final results of the biopsies in 2 weeks. The Dr. took a pap smear, like you suggested; it showed a lot of gardnerella, so I am going to use Metronidigel gel starting tomorrow night; my husband put Vermouth on the steak tonight before cooking so I thought I'd wait until tomorrow night to start it. She also took 2 bipsies, but she thinks they will show No Cancer because there was no overgrowth. She took 2 samples because 1st one was very small. The pain was excruciating for the biopsy time & cramps for 2 days afterwards. I still feel a little out of sorts-slight discomfort/pain down there around bikini area. Any more tips from you? Thank you so much. You are top star.

Brief Answer:
Yes, please complete the Metronidazole course.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
THanks for writing to us with your health concern.
I am Dr. Abraham, and will be guiding you through this query.
As I understand, you are having a mild form of cervical infection.
That would explain the erratic spotting, the pain and the cramps.
Yes, please complete the Metronidazole gel therapy.
Since it is a vaginal gel, having Vermouth would not interfere with it, but it is just as well to start it tomorrow night.
Do you have any idea , what sort of biopsies were taken , and why were they taken ?
YEs, if it was a cervical biopsy, it would hurt for a day or two, since the cervix is very pain sensitive.
Just use the Metronidazole gel ( it might burn for a while but then it will be okay ), and complete the therapy.
Also, refrain from sex until the entire course gets completed.
Do not exercise vigorously or over exert yourself.
Just relax, you will be fine.
Mild exercise, a nutritious diet and some form of relaxational therapy ( music, yoga ? ) will go a long way towards making you feel better on the whole.
HOpe this helps.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Take care.
