Is Unprotected Sex Safe While Having Contraceptive Implant?

default
Posted on Tue, 29 Nov 2016
Question: Hi Doctor,
I have a late periode which suppossed to arrieve on 5 Nov. My first day of my last menstruation cycle was on 1 Oct 2016 which came several days early. My cycle usually is 35 days but sometimes come earlier.
I had unprotected sex on 20 oct and 21 oct but i have IUD inside and my bf used pull-out method at that time.
And this morning i took home pregnancy test and the result is negative. The test said it could detect as much as 25 miu HCG/ml
So i was wondering....is the negative result a false one? Just because i am too early using the HPT.
If I am too early taking the test...when is the best time to retest?

Brief Answer:
Pregnancy not likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The home pregnancy tests are 97% accurate. The test should have been positive if you were pregnant. Since you have an IUD inside, the chances of pregnancy are minimal. The delay in periods can be due to mild hormonal disturbance.
It is best to wait for a week more and repeat the test. In case the test is still negative and periods do not start then do consult your gynecologist and get hormonal tablets prescribed for a withdrawal bleeding.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
