Is There Any Relationship Sleep Apnea And Depression?

default
Posted on Thu, 26 Nov 2015
Question: My new doctor believes that my (diagnosed) depression/anxiety disorder is a result of sleep apnea. I have also been recently diagnosed with sleep apnea. He wants to discontinue my anti-depressant and wean me from zopiclone, which I have been using successfully for over 7 years. These two medications saved my life after a nervous breakdown and it took several years to get the dosage right. My previous doctor knew me for over 25 years. How can I convince my new doctor that my depression/anxiety and the sleep apnea are two separate health issues?
Although my husband also has been diagnosed with depression/anxiety, the doctor had no trouble renewing his anti-depressant and sleep medication.

Brief Answer:
Sleep apnea and depression/anxiety are 2 different entities

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Madam

I can certainly understand your concerns.

I apologize for the delayed response owing to my hectic work schedule.

Yes, both depression/anxiety and sleep apnea are separate entities.

It is important that you narrate your doctor that you need Zopiclone. This is an excellent drug effective against both depression and anxiousness.

You might need additional therapy for sleep apnea like Modafinil or CPAP therapy. Please check with your doctor if he can prescribe the same to you.

Post your further queries if any.
Thank you so much
