Brief Answer:
There is no association between vaginal infections and acne

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and I would be happy to answer your question today.

Bacterial vaginosis is caused by the overgrowth of a particular type of bacteria in the vagina called gardnerella vaginalis. This type of bacteria is present normally in the vagina in small amounts, however death of the protective lactobacillus bacteria which are the "healthy" type of bacteria in the vagina, which can be due to antibiotic usage, douching, or change in pH of the vagina, can cause an overgrowth of gardnerella which produces the side effects of a thin white to gray discharge and an odor. Bacterial vaginosis is normally treated with an antibiotic, either in the vagina or orally, however the type of antibiotic used to treat it will not affect your skin.

Adult acne can because by both environmental and hormonal factors. The only reason why bacterial vaginosis might be associated with adult acne is if you were placed on an oral antibiotic to treat your acne, which could have affected the balance of the flora in your vagina.

Consuming probiotics, especially in the form of live yogurt cultures, can help keep the bacteria and the pH of your vagina in healthy balance. Lactobacillus cultures are present in many brands of yogurt. I do not recommend probiotics in the form of supplements as there is no evidence that bacteria can grow after they've been killed and dried.

I hope that I was able to adequately answer your question today, and that my advice was helpful. If you have any additional questions or need any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best wishes,

Thank you for the reply.

I have been avoiding the antibiotics, thus have been using oral and transvaginal suppositories of probiotics.

Do u recommend getting an organic natural yogurt and perhaps using a tampon to put the yogurt in vaginally?

I am willing to try anything

Brief Answer:
You should try the antibiotic jelly it is effective

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,

Bacterial vaginosis is an infection. In order to cure it, an antibiotic is necessary to restore the bacterial balance in the vagina. There is a jelly form of the antibiotic that will treat the infection in only 5 days and it is not absorbed into your bloodstream to any other parts of your body.

I do not recommend using any food item in the vagina. The dairy in the vogurt can also serve as a medium for other bacteria to grow, and a tampon also can absorb the discharge, putting you at risk for other types of infection.

I know you say you will try anything, so I strongly recommend you obtain a prescription for the antibiotic jelly for the vagina, because, unlike holistic treatments, they have been proven to be effective. You will have relief within 5 days. In the future, consuming probiotics (digestively) can help restore the natural balance in your whole body.

I hope my advice was helpful and that you feel better soon.

Regards,

Dr. Brown
