Is There Any Connection Between Mild Seizure And Sphenoid Sinus?

default
Posted on Wed, 10 Sep 2014
Question: Hello - my 6 year old recently suffered a mild seizure (approx. 15 sec). At the ER we had an MRI performed with contrast XXXXXXX that came back clear. The radiologist and ER physician noted fluid in the left sphenoid sinus. As a result, we saw a neurologist today and scheduled an EEG. The neurologist suggested seeing an ENT to get an antibiotic script for the sphenoid fluid. Turns out there is no fluid in sphenoid - rather it is some type of cyst. We are having an CT scan done tomorrow. My question is could the seizure have been caused by the mass in the sphenoid sinus or are the 2 most likely unrelated? To note, other than the seizure, my son has not been experiencing no facial, head, congestion pain.

Brief Answer:
Sphenoid sinus problem is unrelated.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your son's problem and his MRI brain report.

I would like to point out that sphenoid sinus problem (mass, cyst or infection) is not related to his seizure.

Also, it is not unusual to find normal MRI brain and EEG in a child with seizure.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,
