default
Posted on Mon, 17 Nov 2014
Question: Hello,
I am 24 year old unmarried girl. My periods is very regular (26-28 days cycle). My last period was from 21 sept to 25 sept. On 25th sept me and my bf had protected sex (condom), but this time I missed my period. Today is 38th day of my cycle. On 36th day I tested for pregancy by home pregnancy test (prega news),result was negative. After 1-2 hours i looked again then there was a faint colorless line on result area. I am very confuse that line was evaporation line or a positive result. On same day I rush to dr. She done urine test again (prega news) and result came out negative. My dr. Prescribed me sandoz regestrone 5mg for 5 day to take twice in a day. My other query is what does ragestrone do? I googled about it but some are telling this is to delay period.
1 can i be pregnant?
2. Faint colorless line appear after an hour would be a positive result or evaporation line.
3. Regestrone is used to delay period or to get period.

Please help.

Brief Answer:
No chance of pregnancy. Take the medicine.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us. Followings are my comments:

1) You did protected sex in SAFE period (on 25th Sept). Last 7 days before period date and first 5 days after period are EXTREMELY SAFE.

You have NO chance of pregnancy in this sexual activity as you DIDN'T ovulate at that time. Therefore, you wouldn't be worried much.

Hormonal imbalance and excessive mental stress are the MAIN reason of late period in this context.

2) It is NEGATIVE test. One line means NEGATIVE and two CLEAR lines mean POSITIVE test result.

3) Regestrone can be used in both purposes (to delay and get period). You should take them as directed by your doctor. You will get your period within 5-7 days after stopping them.

Hope, it helps for your information. Kindly, close the discussion if you don't have any other query.

Wish your good health and practice safe sex in future.

Dr S Patra

Thank you for answering all my queries :),
You are right this month I am in mentality stress and also this month i increased my exercise time to 1 hour daily. I do exercise daily around 1.5 hours.
But still some questions are rolling in my mind.
1. If my cycle is 26 days long, and my last period start date was 21th sept. Than what could be my ovulation date. I heard that sperm can alive upto 7 days after an intercourse. So is there any chance tht sperm can alive till my ovulation?
2. Can pregnancy test show false negative after 31 days of intercourse or after 36 days of last period.
3. Should I be worried?

Thanks in advance, and sorry to disturb you again.

Brief Answer:
No pregnancy. Nothing to worry.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Good morning. Thanks for follow up queries.

1) Ovulation occurs 14 days (approx) prior to next period due date in regular cycle. It is unpredictable in case of irregular cycle or prolonged late period.

In general, ovulation must be OCCURRED to get period bleeding in the absence of pregnancy. Induced or withdrawal bleeding is related with an-ovulation.

2) Don't be stressed yourself. You are completely safe. After ovulation, ovum can survive 24-36 hrs inside fallopian tube and after ejaculation, sperm can survive 48 to 72 hrs inside female genital tract.

3) You CAN'T be pregnant and there is NOTHING to worry as I explain already. Home pregnancy test gives more than 99% POSITIVE result 7 days after missed period. However, you have gotten NEGATIVE test result.

4) Mental stress and emotional upset, psychological factors has GREAT role in disturbance of menstrual period. It leads to hormonal imbalance by altering Hypothalamus- Pituitary- Ovarian (HPO) axis. You need to be stress free to get period regularly.

Hope, I have explained everything for your better understanding. Kindly, close the discussion and rate the answer.

All the best and good luck.
