Is Occult Blood In Stool A Symptom Of Colon Cancer?

default
Posted on Mon, 1 Aug 2016
Question: Hi, I recently had a positive occult test result. Kaiser scheduled me for colonoscopy 2 1/2 months away. I should have the colonoscopy sooner, right? What if it is colon cancer? What can I expect if it is?

Brief Answer:
provide additional information, many causes other than cancer, relax

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome
I have gone through your query
First of all why was the test asked for?
What were your symptoms?
Are you taking any medication or having any medical condition?

There are many causes for occult blood in stool other than cancer but I would like you to provide this information, so that I can help you with specific advice.
Few benign causes include diverticular diseases, ulcer, ulcerative colitis, crohns disease, polyps, and less common include haemorrhoids, anal fissure.
If they have asked for colonoscopy after month or so, that means based on the clinical examination you do not have anything serious.
Hope this helps
Take care
