Brief Answer:
Not Harmful unless you've a heart problem

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) is recommended for patients of COPD as it enables weaning them of smoking. Getting some nicotine this way helps assuage 'nicotine cravings' that a smoker gets on quitting smoking. I recommend using nicotine lozenges for around three months after you've quit (though you can use them for longer). However if you've a concurrent heart problem I'd advise a consultation with your physician as nicotine has effects on heart rate and rhythm.
I'd also caution you not to smoke while taking nicotine lozenges as this could lead to really high levels of nicotine in blood with possible effects like a racing heart and dizziness. In case you need any further clarification you're welcome to write in.
All the best!
