Question: Dear doctor,

I'm currently feeding formula for my newborn baby for 2 months. He's both Breast and formula fed. He is doing ok with similac formula. However I would also like to feed him with enfamil. Can I for example , feed both brands on alternate days? Or can I do enfamil in the morning and similac the rest of the day? Thks

Brief Answer:
Suggestions on formula feeds

Detailed Answer:
Hi...
I don't see any reason to add one more formula feed when the baby is adjusted to one formula and is doing well on it. If the baby is grown and gaining weight well and passing urine well, you need not add another formula.

1. Please mix one non-heaped scoop of Similac to 30ml of boiled and cooled water.

2. There is no specific recommendation on how much to increase and how fast - it is like demand feeding, that is - give as much as the baby demands and accepts.

3. Avoid force feeding.

4. The best measure that the baby is getting adequate feed is - passing urine 4-6 times a day and having adequate weight gain.

5. But if you are really interested in starting a new formula - please be on the look out for diarrhea and there is no specific recommendation on how much to feed to and t alternate. You can it as the baby likes according to baby's palatability.
