Is It Safe To Use Vaseline For Burning Sensation On Genital Area?

default
Posted on Mon, 19 Jan 2015
Question: 4yr old daughter crying at night from stinging round her genital area which we think is a 'urine burn.' We know what we need to do tomorrow onwards (bathing the area 2x a day with plain water and sensitive soap, regularly changing pants etc is any urine in them) but is there anything we can do immediately to relieve her distress? Could we use savlon or would a barrier like Vaseline help? She is in pain, apart from calpol is there anything else we can try?

Brief Answer:
Burn

Detailed Answer:
Hello. I just read through your question. This is very common in this age group.

Any barrier cream or ointment will work. Vaseline is a good idea. So is baby oil. Even the diaper creams we use for the babies can be very soothing. I recommend trying any of these.
