Question: I am 7th months pregnant. In the last doctor visit my doctor advised me to sleep to the side preferably left. But from the beginning of pregnancy , i am comfortable sleeping straight even now if i sleep like that it is comfortable. But in the internet i read that is not good to sleep in that position. I am worried. Please advice.

Brief Answer:
Sleeping in any lateral position after 24 weeks is advisable.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Dr. Purushottam welcomes you to HCM virtual clinic!
Thanks for consulting at my virtual clinic. I have carefully gone through your query, and I think I have understood your concern. I will try to address your medical concerns and would suggest you the best of the available treatment options.

1.First of all do not panic.

2. As you might be aware that big blood vessels of the body are present in the middle of the abdomen.
After 24 weeks pf pregnancy, growing uterine size can compress on these blood vessels and can compromise the blood flow to the uterus.

3. It is alright to sleep on your back till 24 weeks of pregnancy. But later on it is advisable to lie down on either side. You can take support of the pillows below the upper leg when lying down on side.
Also, this will help to minimise low back ache in later weeks of pregnancy.

4. As such there is no harmful effect on the baby, so please do not worry.

I hope this answer was helpful to you!
Please kindly rate it as helpful and write a short review about your experience with me! I would appreciate that a lot.
Thank you and best regards!
