Question: I am 56 1/2 yrs old. I had my first period at 13 1/2 yrs old. When I was menstruating, I had very heavy periods due to fibroid tumors. I even became anemic. I had one abortion at 20, one vaginal birth at 21 , one C-section birth at 30 and one C-section birth at 37. I divorced and haven't had any kind of sex since July 2005...10 yrs ago. I had perimenopausal systems in my 40's which I didn't realize at the time and may have contributed to end of marriage. Around the age of 50, my gynocologist said I should be ending my periods any time now. My periods became less frequent and a few times I thought I was finished with them. My Dr had cofirmed fibroids in my 40's & I had a dnc. They were so big then that she had trouble getting an accurate view. I recently went back to Dr at 56 yrs old due to I still have had off and on bleeding. About 1 day of red bleeding evey 2 months. Enough to stain underwear but not at all like the flooding I had when I was menstruating. She had me under go 2 ultrasounds of pelvic and vaginal areas. They couldn't see my ovaries. By the way I had my tubes tied during the 2nd C-section. Ihad gained a lot of weight especially after my divorce. I am 5 foot 3 inches and gained a lot. I was 145 lbs after 1st C-section & about 160 after 2nd c-section and was about 195 when I was 47. I now weigh 253 lbs and have had so much trouble losing weight. I even had lap band surgery and gained weight. I don't excessively eat but for the past 5 yrs I've worked at a very stressful job which involves sitting all day and listening to peoples' (when I can locate them) reasons why they can't pay their student loans. Ido not do any exercise and literally just started walking. I lost a little weight but that seemed to increase the frequency of bleeding. My dr tried to do a biopsy in her office but my cervix was so tight she couldn't get in far enough. She also said I had a long vagina. My previous ob-gyn dr said I had a shallow pelvis or cervix I can't remember which he said. My dr wants to do a DNC to rule out anything else. Cancer? I am bleeding today and DNC is for Fri. My sister says it's a waste of time and money. She had 3 DNC's and the same dr found nothing. My sister ended up having a hysterectomy because she was tired of heaving bleeding. She had fibroids and both endometrial and entramettrial (not sure of spelling but both in and out of uterine growths or scarring). My mother also had fibroids and a hysterectomy. Should I have the DNC?
