Is Blackening Of Skin Post Toe Surgery Suggestive Of Poor Blood Circulation?

default
Posted on Fri, 30 Oct 2015
Question: I had toe surgery a little over two months ago b/c of pain caused by arthritis. Screws were put in. Since that time I have a place on the outside of my foot that is still trying to heal (never scabed over) but is white and rough like a scab. I still can’t wear most shoes and have been through electric shocks, deadness and tingling. Now I am beginning to have significant blackening of the skin which seems to come and then disappear. Does the blackening sound like a circulation problem or possibly an infection? My doctor said he would take the screws out, but I am hesitant b/c I’m still dealing with symptoms that I don’t understand. Thanks, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Yes, possibly problems with blood circulation after surgery

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

I have gone through your medical history carefully, and understood your concerns.

The whitening and blackening of the skin at the place where the screws were put on are suggestive for possible problems with blood circulation.

Levofloxacin will help to fight the infection. However, you need further evaluation by the doctor who did the surgery regarding this as possible complication of the surgery.

If he will decide to take the screws out, then should follow his advice.

All the best!
