Is A Lump Sort Of Feeling In Groin Area A Symptom Of Herpes?

default
Posted on Fri, 29 Jul 2016
Question: I think I have herpes and I am afraid to get tested. Lately I felt like a lump sort of in my groin area...it comes and go. A month or so ago I had a single bump on my vagina. I assumed it was a hair bump and let it just take it course...it became sort of like a pimple. In May I had unprotected sex and about a week later it was like I got a rash between my thighs. If I scratched, it looked like my skin became rubbery or something. Then I would scratch my back or arm and a rash would appear for like 5 minutes and disappear. I went to my gyno and she gave me a pap smear, I told her my concern about the rash between my thighs and she gave me Nystatin. She said it look like I had jock itch...which I didn't even know that females could get.It cleared it up and like I said it would only appear when I scratch. She gave me a pap smear and everything came back good and I was negative for HPV. Its so nerve wrecking cause one minute I want to tell myself I don't have anything and then next minute I'm convinced I have something. What do you suggest? What do my symptoms tell you?

Brief Answer:
Unlikely Herpes

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

I am sorry to hear that you are so worried about having herpes. From your description though I would not guess that you have herpes. Herpes causes tingling pain and then blisters to show up. You describe what looks like a pimple. This is probably an ingrown hair. If you shave that is more than likely what you have been experiencing. Perhaps if you stop shaving that will resolve.

The jock issue is caused by a yeast infection on the skin. It can happen to anyone. The usual reason is heat dark and moist areas is where yeast love to grow. Also is you get easily chafed that would also contribute to the rash. Use the nystatin and keep your area clean and dry as possible. That will hep stop the rash.

I hope I answered your question. Please contact us again if you have any additional questions
